Install Immich on Debian without docker

Only notes for the moment

Install Immich first:

apt install immich

Configure database:

# Generate a secure password
password=$(openssl rand -base64 32)
echo "Generated password is: ${password}"
 
# Create the database user and database
echo "create role immich with login superuser password '$password';" | sudo -u postgres psql
echo "create database immich;" | sudo -u postgres psql
echo "grant all privileges on database immich to immich;" | sudo -u postgres psql

If you want the media library in a folder other than the default one (e.g., your big HDD instead of your small SSD) you need to enable the path in systemd:

systemctl edit immich-server

Add the following:

[Service]
ReadWritePaths=/path/to/external/folder/for/immich

And update the configuration:

systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl restart immich-server
